2020 consisted of spending much of our days indoors. We had to learn how to live in our homes and decorate accordingly. With so much time inside, it’s easy to get lost in Pinterest and fumbling through home magazines, trying to find the perfect home decor for your house. We’re here to help with these top 8 design trends for 2021.
8 Home Decor Trends
This list could be expanded for pages based on personal style. In no particular order, these are the home decor trends that we predict will grab the most attention in 2021.
1. Yellow and Gray
An odd color combination for some, these two are the colors of the year for Pantone. The mix of neutral gray with a pop of yellow is a trend we think we’ll see in a lot of homes this coming year.
2. Cottage Core
This trend brings the cozy feeling of a cottage in the woods into your home. Even if you live in a high rise in New York City you can still jump on this home decor trend. Cottage core consists of (fake) ivy decorating your walls, woodland creature stuffed animals, and maybe a rocking chair in the corner….you get the vibe.
3. Multipurpose Furniture
Many of us in 2020 had to transform our living space into not just a place to sleep, but a place to work and chill in for days on end. This is why the introduction of functional furniture that has more than one purpose or saves space is becoming popular this year.
Going off of the last point, minimalism has swept over the home decor nation. No one likes a cluttered space, especially when you’re constantly inside. Minimalism keeps the things you need and love and gets rid of the things in your house that are weighing you down.
5. Geometric Shapes
Postmodernism design has been applied to 2021 home decor through the way of funky geometric shapes. These shapes liven up your space and add a bit of fun to your home.
6. Indoor Gardens
From plants to growing herbs on your windowsill, a dramatic rise of people tending to their indoor gardens will be seen this year. Bring a bit of the outside in with this trend.
7. Dark Colors
Cozy homes are a vibe for 2021. This means replacing stark white walls with deep, rich colors. You can even add pops of color to your dark background to go with the Pantone colors of the year, yellow and gray, while keeping your own personal style of color palette.
Actual vintage or vintage-inspired pieces are making their way into the home this year. We can guess that this is also because of the need to create a cozy home that has endless nostalgia within its walls.
Add Your Own Personal Touch
While these are the upcoming home decor trends for 2021, feel free to add your own personal style and flair to your home. These trends exude coziness, fun, and functionality, qualities we all could use a bit more of in 2021.
